Scattered storms moving through region prompt warnings

PITTSBURGH — UPDATE (7:53 p.m.): Tornado Warning in effect until 8 p.m. for northwestern Mercer County.

UPDATE (7:25 p.m.): Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until 7:45 p.m. for Mercer County.

UPDATE (4:48 p.m.): Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until 5:30 p.m. for Washington County.

PREVIOUS STORY: Scattered storms to roll through the region late this afternoon and tonight.

A vigorous late-season cold front will trigger several rounds of showers and thunderstorms across the area through tonight.

Some of the storms will bring bouts of very heavy rain that could lead to high water issues in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Some of the stronger storms will produce wind gusts in excess of 40 mph possibly knocking down smaller trees and some power lines.

The worst of the thunderstorms will be through the area shortly after midnight.

Scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm will continue during the overnight hours and into Friday morning.
