2 dead, 7 hurt in Fayette County crash

WHARTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people are dead and several others are hurt after a crash in Fayette County.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 40 and Hawes Road. This is near Nemacolin Woodlands in Wharton Township.

The coroner tells Channel 11 that two people died. Seven others were hurt.

According to state police, a vehicle traveling on Route 40 hit the other vehicle head-on.

Police say the two people who died were the driver and rear passenger in the vehicle on Route 40.

Several others in the same vehicle were flown to the hospital. Occupants in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Everyone inside of the two cars were Foreign National Citizens and didn’t speak English, so an interpreter was requested to help the police conduct interviews.

Authorities are not releasing any information about the victims at this time.

State Police told Channel 11′s Andrew Havranek they had no new information about the crash on Monday.

Route 40 was closed in both directions while police investigated the crash.
