Man pleads guilty in wrong-way crash that killed one man in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — The driver in a wrong-way accident that killed one other man on Route 22 last June, pleaded guilty Friday.

Daniel Fleet Jr., 25, was driving the wrong way in oncoming traffic when he hit George Jucha Jr., head on in Robinson Township last June. Fleet was driving drunk, at nearly four times the legal limit.%

“He didn't know George Jr. I know he didn’t mean to do it. He also ruined his life,” said Jucha’s mother, Antoinette Jucha.

Antoinette Jucha was prepared to show Fleet pictures of her son. Instead she asked him to look at something else instead: A grieving mother’s face.

“I wanted him to face me and he did. It was very comforting to have that,” said Antoinette Jucha.

Fleet apologized saying, “I do know what I did that day cannot be taken back in any way. Words cannot describe how sorry I am that I ended somebody's life. It's hard enough to look in mirror every morning. I have to live with this. I don't expect any of you to forgive me for what I've done, because I don't know if I can forgive myself;  I'm sorry.”

Antoinette Jucha told Fleet he has to make something out of his life.

“His life is still young. He can still turn his life around and make something better of it. He took a good man from this earth and he owes the world a good man in return,” said Antoinette Jucha.
