Additional reward money being offered in death of Penn Hills woman

PITTSBURGH — Additional reward money is being offered for information in the death of a Penn Hills woman who was found in her home in February.

Jessica Vecchiola, a mother of two, was found dead days after she was assaulted in a road rage-incident, according to police. The assault happened Jan. 31 in the parking lot of a pharmacy in Plum Borough.

Vecchiola told family members she was being tailgated, and when she pulled over to let the car pass, a woman got out of the car and assaulted her.

An autopsy revealed that Vecchiola died from a type of ligament damage in her neck that is most commonly seen as the result of car crashes, so it is unclear whether the assault led to her death.

“This case isn't just another number. We're not just going to be sad and mourn her passing and move on. We really aren't going to stop searching for answers until we have them,” Elizabeth Arrington, Vecchiola’s mother, said.

At a news conference Wednesday afternoon it was announced that Vecchiola’s family is now offering a $10,000 reward, with the help of fundraising. Crime Stoppers initially offered a $1,000 reward.

“People know the person that she was. She was heading in a good path and a good direction in her life, with some changes. We all want justice because we all know this shouldn't have happened,” Arrington said. “What if whoever did this to my daughter does this to someone else, and you could have stopped it?”

A fundraising event on Aug. 6 will raise money to help in the family's search for answers (CLICK HERE for information).
