Police: Possibly armed man sought in 2 car thefts; public urged to use caution

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police are urging the public to use caution and be on the lookout for a man who stole two vehicles Saturday and might be armed with a handgun.

The first theft was reported about 9:40 a.m. at the CoGo’s on Saw Mill Run Boulevard. Police said a man parked his rental vehicle, but left it running with the keys in the ignition as he went into the store. When he returned, the car was gone.

Shortly after the car was reported stolen, it was found abandoned and crashed into the porch of a home on Newett Drive. The driver fled on foot with what appeared to be a gun in his hand, police said.

A photo was taken of the man who crashed the car as he fled. He is described as white and possibly between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a black Pirates baseball hat, a black T-shirt and green and black camouflage cargo shorts.

The second car theft was reported about 11 a.m. on Brownsville Road. Police said the victim parked his black Hyundai Sonata and took his dog for a walk. He said he must have dropped his keys because when he returned his car was gone.
