Several teens involved in fight on PAT bus; 1 taken to hospital

ASPINWALL, Pa. — A fight on a Port Authority bus in Aspinwall resulted in a 13-year-old being taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, officials said.

The fight was reported just after midnight Tuesday on Freeport Road, near Western Avenue. Several teenagers were involved, Port Authority of Allegheny County spokesman Adam Brandolph confirmed.

Brandolph said the teenager who was taken to the hospital suffered minor injuries. He has since been released.

The Port Authority said they are now reviewing surveillance video of the fight.

The bus was coming from the Waterworks Mall, where the teenager who was injured had seen a movie with his mother.

Thirteen-year-old Jayden Richards’ mother, Janice Hoffman, said she was arguing with a group of teenagers on the bus when her son tried to step in. He was pushed onto the floor of the bus and punched and kicked, resulting in bruises, scratches and two black eyes.

“I got a couple of markings from when I was on the ground, a couple of bumps, black eyes, a scratch,” Richards said.

When Channel 11 News arrived at the scene, several emergency vehicles were seen near the bus, and there were several teenagers, adults and younger children.

“All I could think about was, what if it went a different way? What if he was lying there and he was dead?” Hoffman said. "The whole time I stayed down, getting my hair ripped out and getting punched and kicked."

It is unclear if anyone will face charges.
