Steel City Flooring owner headed to trial for theft, deceptive business practices

An carpet company owner who is accused of taking customers' money and not performing the work is headed to trial.

Jason Muller waived his preliminary hearing Monday.

Channel 11 was the first to report on accusations of theft and deceptive business practices against Muller, the owner of Steel City Flooring.

Police said Muller sold flooring and carpeting out of his stores for months, even though he had no intention of delivering those products.

Muller’s defense attorney said his client is trying his best.

“No pun intended, but he was robbing Peter to pay Paul. I mean, the business went under. He had no criminal intent. He did not want to deceive these people. The business just went under, and he couldn't keep up with the orders,” said attorney Casey White.

The Beaver County District Attorney consolidated all 34 charges into two counts of theft and deceptive business practices. However, more charges could be filed.

The district attorney is still talking to people who may have bought flooring from Muller in other counties.

“We are pursuing it criminally and we intend to pursue it all the way we possibly can, “ said David Lozier, the Beaver County district attorney. “We also understand that the attorney general is pursuing a civil matter.”

At least 17 alleged victims filled out paperwork Monday morning to attempt to get restitution, but they’re not counting on it. Some are hoping for something else.

“Even beyond me getting my money back, I hope that there is jail time for Jason Muller,” said Karen Hornstein.
