Teenager hit by car while riding bike, flown to hospital

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — A 16-year-old boy was hit by a box-truck Monday morning while riding his bike in Aliquippa.

Police said the teenager was riding down Upland Street and onto Kennedy Boulevard, where the truck hit him.

The street is very steep.

Aliquippa police said the teen did not stop, even though it is clearly marked.

Officers said the high school student shot straight into the heavily-traveled, four-lane road and right into the path of a box truck.

The boy was flown to a hospital with injuries to his pelvis and leg, but is expected to survive.

"It was kind of scary and next thing I saw he was screaming," said Jacob Simmons, who saw everything happen. "He came down that hill and never hit his brakes."

Police told Channel 11 the boy was lucky, because he and his bike slid under the vehicle. They have not yet released his name.
