WILKINSBURG — A Wilkinsburg woman convicted of severely beating her baby in an act of revenge against his father was sentenced to prison on Wednesday.
A judge sentenced Dalishia Salter on Wednesday to 7 and a half to 15 years in prison for the 2014 incident.
Salter was previously found guilty of beating her 11-month-old son and leaving him on her back porch in an apparent act of revenge against the baby’s father.
The boy’s father took cellphone video of his son, which showed the child with two black eyes and a bloodied nose.
At Wednesday's hearing, Salter’s sister asked the judge for mercy, but the judge called the incident a “heinous act” and said “there is no excuse for it.”
After the hearing, Salter’s attorney, Blaine Jones, said, “She maintained her innocence and also stated that she loves all of her children. She’s going to appeal the decision. She respects the verdict. She does not agree with the verdict, but she respects it.”
Salters was also ordered to have no contact with the victim. The child and his two siblings were all adopted by the same family.
