Steelers owner reflects on this past season

PITTSBURGH — A new honor for the late Dan Rooney and a possible Super Bowl in Pittsburgh are just two of the topics Channel 11 talked about with Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney II.

In three months, he will mark his 15th year as Steelers president.

It's been a highly successful tenure, but 2017 was a difficult year for Rooney and his family.

Last season was the first after the loss of the family's patriarch, Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney.

The 2017 season was dedicated to Dan Rooney.

Players remembered him by wearing a patch with his initials on it and, going forward, in one way or another, Art Rooney said, the team will continue to honor his father's memory.

"People have suggested things. We're open to a lot of possibilities," he said.

The season had many highs and one devastating low: the injury to Ryan Shazier on Dec. 4.

"It was certainly something you never want to see," he said.

Winning the Super Bowl is always the goal for the Steelers. Channel 11 asked Rooney for an update on the possibility of Pittsburgh hosting a future Super Bowl.

"I think we've always been a long shot, but we'll try to do that. We'll see."

The team's six Lombardi trophies are on display in the Rooney Library at the team's South Side headquarters.
