Westmoreland Co. Food Bank supplies 480,000 pounds of food in 2 weeks

DELMONT, Pa. — The Westmoreland County Food Bank is continuing to serve its community, while adapting to changes that needed to be made because of the coronavirus pandemic.

There has already been an increase in the amount of people looking for help, according to a news release.

Typically, the organization serves 18,000 people a month.

So far for the month of April, volunteers at the Delmont warehouse have prepared 480,000 pounds of food, which gives participating households a 10 to 14-day supply of food, according to a news release.

The WCFB also supplies food to 44 partners throughout the county.

“Purchasing boxes, additional food, and distributing in this manner is very costly for the organization. Pandemics are not something you predict in a budget,” said Jennifer Miller, chief executive officer.
