PITTSBURGH — 32 tons of dirt piled on the floor sounds like a little kid’s dream. It’s also the scene inside PPG Paints Arena ahead of this weekend’s Monster Jam.
Crews spent the day Thursday hauling over 140 truckloads of dirt.
It’s dumped onto the floor then spread out to create the Monster Jam track.

Here’s a fun fact: the dirt actually stays in Pittsburgh year-round.
“We’ve worked with the same trucking guy for multiple years, and we’re fortunate to have him store the dirt for us, and cover it up with a tarp. It stays dry and we haul it in and out each year and we know what we’re getting,” said Kenny Henry, the track construction manager.
Monster Jam starts Friday night at PPG Paints Arena and runs through Sunday.
