1 Franklin Regional HS student in critical: ‘Knife came within millimeters of heart'

PITTSBURGH — One of 19 students injured in a mass stabbing at Franklin Regional High School Wednesday is listed in critical condition.

University of Pittsburgh Medical officials held a news conference around 1:30 p.m., saying the most serious case in their system involves a student who was stabbed in the chest.

Channel 11’s Jennifer Tomazic reported that the student is currently in the intensive care unit.

Dr. Louis Alarcon said that patient had a knife wound to the chest that missed his aorta by millimeters. Doctors did say the knife struck the 17-year-old’s liver and will require multiple surgeries.
