BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — Butler Township police have arrested a suspect in the death of a man found in the basement of a tattoo parlor more than a year ago.
Channel 11 News was the only one there as police took Edward Campbell, 35, of Butler, into court to face charges of murder, robbery, theft and abuse of a corpse.
The decomposing body of Shawn Michael Murphy was found Jan. 25, 2009, in the basement of the Lyndora Tattoo shop, police said.
Murphy's body was not found until a month after his death. According to investigators, he was found with a plastic garbage bag tied around his head.
Butler Township police Sgt. Nathan Teslik said he believes the motive for the crime was robbery.
"This has been a long investigation. Fifteen months in the making all came to an end today," said Teslik.
Campbell was already in jail Monday when he received these charges. He was serving time for an attack on a 75-year-old woman inside a bingo hall, said police.
Campbell was arraigned Monday and is being held in Butler County Prison without bond.
