Police said Chris Schuffert, 22, and Julian Wilson, 21, both of Penn Hills, died at the scene. Jay Wilson, Juliette Babati and Brandy Turbo were all injured in the crash. Wilson and Barbati remain in the hospital, Turbo was treated and released.
The crash happened on Universal Road at about 4 a.m., police said. Investigators said the vehicle veered off a road and hit a tree and was airborne at one point.
The owner of Pasqualino's Pizza and Pasta on Frankstown Road said all five people in the car were employees at the restaurant and were at a birthday party for another staff member before the accident happened.
"It was a tragic, tragic accident. It has really, really impacted not just our restaurant but the lives of hundreds of people who knew them and liked them," Pasqualino said.
Pasqualino said Schuffert and Julian Wilson were two of his best employees.
"They were not just really good staff members, they were really good people. Both kind hearted. They just had a lot of ambition," said Pasqualino.
Julian Wilson was the twin brother of Jay Wilson, who was hurt but survived the crash.
"He was always silly. He just always made you smile. Chris was the same way, so they will definitely be missed but their spirits are here and we'll get through it," co-worker Megan Trainor said.
Several neighbors said they saw the car smoking and heard a man calling for help. Neighbor Jeff Coglio said he saw one of the people in the car walk a few feet and collapse on the roadway.
"We seen a body with somebody attending to it in the street and the car was four houses down into a tree. It wasn't good," Coglio said.
The speed limit along Universal Road is 25 mph. Universal Road was closed between Saltsburg Road and Deborah Jane Drive as police investigated.
Penn Hills and Plum police are investigating what caused the crash.
