6-Year-Old Girl Hit By Car In Vandergrift

VANDERGRIFT, Pa.,None — A 6-year-old girl was hit by a car while walking home from a swimming pool Thursday night in Vandergrift, police said.

Serenity Shaffer was with her mother and a group of children when she darted into the intersection of Lowell and Hancock Avenue, police said.

The driver of the car did stop.

"The accident is still under investigation. At this time I don't think there's going to be any charges, but we are still investigating," said Sgt. Steve Callipare of Vandergrift police.

Shaffer suffered head injuries and abrasions and was taken to Children's Hospital.

She is expected to be OK.
