MILLERSBURG, OHIO — The Amish are known for simple lifestyles and avoiding modern technology, but authorities in Ohio say dozens of Amish teens also knew how to throw an underage drinking party.

At least 73 people, including 35 juveniles, were arrested over the weekend when police raided an Amish youth party in an Ohio field.  It's believed more than a thousand Amish from Ohio and neighboring states were expected to attend.   Authorities say they heard from concerned parents about the party.

Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly says,  "They don't support this type of activity. They don't condone it by any means. We're working with the Amish leaders of the churches and the community to try to keep their young children from doing this, but it's kind of been a heritage with the Amish to go out and do this type of thing."

All of those arrested were charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

Some also face charges of resisting arrest.

At least two people were hospitalized with alcohol-related illnesses.
