WILMERDING, Pa. — Police arrested a suspect Friday morning in connection with a shooting in Wilmerding.
Kien Carpenter, 26, of Wilmerding, is in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges of aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license.
The victim, 37-year-old John Adamchik of Trafford, was shot shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of Commerce Street. Police said Adamchik suffered a knee injury and was taken to a trauma center, where he is listed in stable condition.
A Channel 11 News crew saw shell casings and evidence markers outside an apartment building, as well as shattered glass from a door to one of the apartments.
Neighbors said they heard at least a dozen gunshots Thursday night.
"It just keeps getting worse and worse," said business owner Nancy Ruffing, who co-owns Lou-Louz's Beauty Salon with Jennifer Sprowls.
"Our maintenance man got shot a few weeks ago. We had U.S. marshals down here pulling someone out of a building," Sprowls said. "I just don't understand why this is going on. It's terrible."
Their salon is just a few feet from where the shots were fired.
"It's a safety issue. They just come in and they don't care, they shoot for no reason. It's scary," Sprowls said. "We're going to get shot or we're going to lose business. It's terrible. This used to be a nice little town."
