PITTSBURGH,None — A bike rider was attacked in Pittsburgh's East End on Tuesday night, the second such attack this week.
Adlai Wang said he was riding his bike when passengers in a passing car told him to get off the road. Wang said he was then attacked.
"Traffic started to back up. So, as I got caught up to them, the passengers just threw a bottle of soda or something at me that hit me right in the face, and I couldn't see, and I hit the curb, and I wiped out," Wang said.
On Monday night, police said a group of eight teenagers attacked another East End resident. Investigators said the group targeted a man on a bicycle at about 10 p.m. outside of the East End Co-Op, where he works.
The 26-year-old was riding past a group of young people when two boys pushed him over, according to authorities. Police said another teen then stole the victim's backpack.
Investigators said the victim was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital and treated for a concussion.
Some people who shop in the area told Channel 11 News they're worried.
"Of course it concerns me. I have a young daughter, and I'm not able to defend myself as well as I might like," said Regent Square shopper Elaine Rybski.
Managers at the East End Co-Op told reporter Vince Sims they are taking the matter seriously and are working with Pittsburgh police on ways to improve safety.
Pittsburgh police would not confirm other attacks in the area, but neighbors said it's happening more often. However, some people who shop in the Regent Square area said they won't let the attacks stop them from going out.
"I generally don't shop at night, so it's not going to affect the way I move around," said Kevin Cooper. "This is a great store. It won't change what I'm doing."
Managers at the East End Co-Op said they like staying open until 9 p.m. because they are a community-minded business. They stressed that they do provide services for people who want to be walked to their cars for safety.
