BEAVER FALLS, Pa.,None — Investigators discovered a body inside an empty funeral home in Beaver Falls on Tuesday.
Police said the Leavell Funeral Home building was purchased by a couple during a sheriff's sale on Monday.
Investigators said when the new owners went to the building on Tuesday, they found the body of Roland Brown, a 53-year-old man who died three months ago.
Brown's body was discovered in a body bag in the embalming room, investigators said. Police said they believe the body has been there since September.
It is unclear how long the funeral home had been closed, but Channel 11 News reporter Amy Marcinkiewicz reported that the building is in poor condition.
The original owner of Leavell Funeral home died in 2000, police said.
The acting supervisor of the building told Marcinkiewicz he did not know that the building was put up for auction and only found out Tuesday morning.
George Wise said the Brown's daughter is from out of town and asked him to keep the body until she could come up with the cash to cremate him. Wise said he did nothing wrong and was just trying to help a family out.
The district attorney's office said they do not suspect foul play. The body is now at the coroner's office awaiting the family's approval for cremation.
