Boy, 12, Accused Of Stealing Laundry In Avalon

PITTSBURGH,None — A 12-year-old boy is accused of stealing from people at an apartment building on California Avenue in Avalon.

Police said two reports of clothing stolen from the laundry room had residents baffled.

Police said a turn in the case came when a person living in the building saw the boy going through people's mail in the common area.

"I can't believe a 12-year-old would steal something," said neighbor Janelle Poshard.

Police said they found the boy a few blocks away from the apartment building, wearing multiple layers of clothing that were obviously too large for him. He also had a backpack with adult clothes in it, police said.

According to police, the boy had also stolen several gift cards on him and admitted to stealing boxes from porches in the North Side just before Christmas.

Police said the case will be turned over to the magistrate's office, and since the suspect is only 12 years old, it will be handled in juvenile court.
