PITTSBURGH — Plaxico Burress is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday on his right shoulder -- an injury Channel 11’s Rich Walsh reported he suffered at training camp on Thursday.

The Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Friday that Burress suffered a significant shoulder injury, but did not go into further detail.

“During Thursday's practice, Plaxico suffered what appears to be a significant shoulder injury,” Tomlin said Friday. “He is scheduled for surgery on Monday, and we will re-evaluate the injury at that time. I will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.”

Walsh reported that Burress was going up for a jump ball when he landed on his shoulder at Thursday’s practice. He stayed on the field for a moment then walked off and was later taken away on a cart.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Burress tore his rotator cuff.

Burress, who was fighting to make the team as the fourth or fifth wide receiver, has played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Steelers, Giants and Jets.

A team of doctors will re-evaluate Burress after Monday’s surgery.
