PITTSBURGH — In the few weeks after the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a global pandemic in March 2020, Pittsburgh-based language learning app company Duolingo saw 30 million new users join its app.
That 30 million marked a 67% increase in new learners compared to the same period in 2019.
“This spike was almost two times as big as our 2020 New Year’s spike,” Cindy Blanco, senior learning scientist at Duolingo, said. “It just blew everything else out of the water.”
