The Carlton Restaurant downtown to close after 37 years

PITTSBURGH — The Carlton Restaurant is ending its 37-year run as a fine-dining landmark in the Golden Triangle, opting not to renew its lease for its 8,000-square-foot space in BNY Mellon Center.

Owner Kevin Joyce announced the decision on the steps of the restaurant with his long-time staff behind him, listing all the challenges the restaurant has faced over the years, whether a struggling downtown or an influx of competitors.

“The pandemic is ultimately what beat us,” he said, choking up
