Pittsburgh Regional Transit board approves $519M budget for new fiscal year

PITTSBURGH — The board of directors for Pittsburgh Regional Transit — previously the Port Authority of Allegheny County following a name change earlier this month — has approved a $519 million operating budget for the agency’s next fiscal year, which runs from July 2022 to June 2023.

A 5.1% increase over the prior year’s figures, PRT’s latest operating budget is expecting $310 million from government sources, including state operating grants, Allegheny County and the Regional Asset District. It’s also assuming $68 million earned in combined advertising, other income sources and passenger fares — the latter of which being a 15% increase from the last fiscal year following an anticipation of ridership gains, a figure that’s hovered around 50% of prepandemic levels.
