PITTSBURGH — West Penn Power Co. will pay $1.2 million in a settlement in connection with the 2018 fatal electrocution of a Tarentum man who was electrocuted on his own property.

The 3-0 Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission vote followed an administrative law judge’s decision to approve the settlement between the PUC and West Penn Power, and investigation by the Bureau of Investigation & Enforcement that had alleged that West Penn had an equipment failure and also didn’t maintain a right-of-way on the property of 56-year-old Terry Colton.
A West Penn Power conductor fell on Colton’s property and caused a brush fire on April 12, 2018, which Colton touched after putting out the fire. He died.
