PITTSBURGH — A new report from Leafly, an online cannabis marketplace, found Pennsylvania’s cannabis-related job numbers reached new highs in 2020, up more than 7,000 to now include just under 16,000 workers across the commonwealth. That places Pennsylvania as the 10th largest state in terms of total employment in the sector, according to Leafly.
Nationally, Leafly found that the cannabis industry added an estimated 77,300 jobs last year, bringing the county’s total to about 321,000 full-time jobs across 37 states with legal medical and/or adult-use markets.
“To put that in perspective: In the United States there are more legal cannabis workers than electrical engineers,” the report noted. “There are more legal cannabis workers than EMTs and paramedics. There are more than twice as many legal cannabis workers as dentists.”
