PITTSBURGH — The Richard King Mellon Foundation is providing $150 million to Carnegie Mellon University for the development of a new science building on its Oakland campus and a new Robotics Innovation Center at Hazelwood Green.
CMU will put $75 million of the funding toward a new $210 million science building, set for construction on Forbes Avenue and Craig Street. Farnam Jahanian, president of CMU, said the university will start planning this project immediately and expects construction to be completed by 2026 or 2027. It is expected to be between 170,000 and 190,000 square feet.
As part of this, CMU also announced a 10-year Future of Science initiative to advance the university’s leadership in scientific discovery.
