PITTSBURGH — Western Maryland Health System has officially joined UPMC.
The health system is centered around a main hospital in Cumberland, Maryland, but the health system also serves surrounding counties in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It announced in January 2017 that it would pursue a clinical affiliation with UPMC, but in the spring of 2019 signed a nonbinding letter of intent to merge the system with UPMC.
