Walnut Capital selling research tower site and Bates Street assemblage to University of Pittsburgh in $25 million transaction in Oakland

PITTSBURGH — Walnut Capital Partners is selling two separate sites in Oakland to the University of Pittsburgh.

At its June meeting, the Property and Facilities Committee of the university’s Board of Trustees voted to buy Walnut Capital’s Fifth and Halket site, recently cleared for a new research tower, as well as a collection of condemned homes in the 3400 block of Bates Street at the Boulevard of the Allies.

The board vote means the university will buy the two sites from Walnut Capital Partners for a combined total of approximately $25 million.
