BUTLER, Pa. — The Butler Area School District sent a letter home to parents Thursday informing them of an attempted luring within the district.

Bill Houck, was told by his 12-year-old granddaughter Sunday that she had been approached last Friday by a stranger who asked if she needed a ride to school. Houck immediately went to police.

According to police, when the girl refused the ride, the stranger drove away.

Both the district and Butler police are reminding parents to be alert and aware when their children are getting on and off the bus.

The attempted luring occurred along Ziegler Road.

“It’s always a good time to talk to your kids about this and keep an eye on them,” said Butler Police Deputy Chief David Adam.
