Butler Student Who Claimed Teacher Taped Hair To Forehead Moved To New Classroom

BUTLER, Pa.,None — A student who claimed his hair was taped to the side of his forehead by his teacher has been moved from that teacher's classroom at Emily Brittain Elementary School in Butler.

"First, she then grabbed (the bangs) and then went over to the desk and put a piece of tape," Matthew Stuteville told Channel 11 News reporter Amy Marcinkiewicz on Tuesday.

"And I'm like, great. Now I'm going to be the laughing stock for the whole rest of the school year and maybe starting seventh grade," he said.

Matthew's mother, Tammy Clutter, told Channel 11 News on Monday that she was meeting with school officials.

Clutter said she learned that a teacher had taped her son's hair to the side of his forehead and to his glasses because his hair was too long.

"I was livid, so livid when I got the phone call," she said. "I was down (at the school) in less than 10 minutes."

Clutter said the teacher said she had called Clutter in the past about her son's long hair.

According to Clutter, there is nothing in the school's handbook stating regulations on haircuts.

School officials said they continue to investigate the incident. Matthew and his mother have given statements to the superintendent, Dr. Edward Fink, who has also been talking to others in the school.

Meanwhile, Matthew has been assigned to another classroom. The teacher is still working.

Clutter said she filed a report with Butler police and has contacted an attorney.

"I'm definitely going further with this," Clutter said Tuesday. "This is not going to happen to any of my children again, nor is it going to happen to anyone else's children."
