CALIFORNIA, Pa. — A California University student was charged Wednesday with causing a crash last year that left one of his friends dead.
The California University community mourned the loss of student Mason Reiff, a junior communication major, last November.%

He died in a crash that left the driver and two other students injured. The driver, Quinten Shaner, is now charged with homicide by vehicle.
Police said Shaner, 21, was going close to 80 to 90 mph on a windy road with a speed limit of 40 mph when he crashed.
Authorities said Shaner admitted he was traveling fast and could not control the vehicle, saying the accident was his fault because he was “driving stupid.”
Another friend and passenger in the car that night said they were traveling on a roadway with sharp and windy turns and that they were moving "pretty fast,” police said.
The passenger also told officers that Reiff at one point told Shaner to slow down, saying, "OK, you proved your point. Slow down."
When the judge was setting bail Wednesday, he asked Shaner what the price was on a human life to which Shaner said “priceless.”
The judge set his bail at $100,000 unsecured. Shaner left court with his family.
He is also charged with recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to drive a vehicle at a safe speed and driving on highways laned for traffic.
