CANONSBURG, Pa.,None — Canonsburg is getting tough on residents who have not paid their garbage collection bill.
Borough Manager Terry Hazlett posted a note on the borough's website saying that people who have not paid their garbage collection bill will have 10 days to do so before the matter is turned over to the magistrate for collection.
Canonsburg doesn't collect its own garbage, but hire Waste Management to do so.
Letters have been sent out to the most serious offenders.
Jarod Ethridge, a homeowner, said he understands why people aren't paying.
"They don't always pick up what they are supposed to pick up, so if lumber is breaking down or if there is a certain date of the week that they do take that, but even that, as a request, they still don't take it," he said.
Another homeowner told Channel 11 News reporter Dave Bondy that he tried to hire another company to pick up his garbage and the borough wouldn't let him.
He said he was told he had no choice but to work with Waste Management.
