Police are searching for at least two men in connection with a daytime carjacking outside a Spring Garden shopping plaza.

Officials said the victim was driving a white Dodge Charger on Monday when he pulled up to the Tobacco Outlet store. A person got out of a nearby gold Nissan Altima, pulled out a gun, pistol-whipped the victim and stole his car, authorities said.

A witness said the victim had a gash on his forehead but was walking around and alert before he was taken to a hospital.

The stolen Dodge was found abandoned about a mile away in front of Spring Hill Elementary School after students had left for the day. The Nissan was also found abandoned on Spring Garden Avenue.

Jason Shelpman and Carlene Smith, who live nearby and walk to the shopping center regularly, said they’re concerned about their family.

"We come down here all of the time and most of the people are fine. We're comfortable walking in and out. You would never think someone would just pistol-whip you for your car,” Shelpman said.

“I was shocked," said Smith, who is pregnant. "You don’t usually hear that around here. It's not that bad of a place here. When you hear that, it scares you a little bit."

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
