A 10-year-old girl called police after one of her caregivers did heroin in front of her and stopped breathing.

Devone Fike and Shawn Wiggins were supposed to be watching the girl, Rochester Borough police said. Instead, both admitted to snorting heroin inside an East Rochester home. When Fike gasped for breath and stopped breathing, officers said the terrified girl didn’t know what to do and dialed 911.

A neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous said she believes she was in the right place at the right time. She stayed with the child as paramedics used several doses of Narcan to revive Fike.

“It’s a shame,” the neighbor said. “She (the girl) asked me to walk her to a friend’s house. She’s safe now.”

According to a criminal complaint, Fike told police she snorted two or three bags of heroin. Her boyfriend, Wiggins, told police he was snorting heroin, too, and police said the girl witnessed all of it.

Rochester Borough police Sgt. Dawn Shane said, “(We’re) very fearful, very concerned for her. Poor kids that get stuck in households like this when people are using drugs and the kids really don't know what to do. At least she was trained well, probably at school, to call 911.”

Fike and Wiggins are both charged with child endangerment. Police said the girl is in a safe place.
