NEW STANTON, Pa. — Two people are facing charges after a child was found asleep near dozens of bags of suspected heroin Wednesday in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania State Police said.
An anonymous ChildLine report led police and the Westmoreland County Children's Bureau to a room at a Days Inn in New Stanton, where Kelcie Burkholder, 21, and Jarrett Short, 21, were staying.
Police said Burkholder’s child was sleeping on a bed within arm’s reach of a nightstand that had 48 bags of suspected heroin in its drawer.
Burkholder, of Latrobe, and Short, of Irwin, are each charged with endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Arrangements for the child’s safety were made, according to police.
