McKEESPORT, Pa. — A dog owner has been cited after the owner’s pit bull attacked another dog in McKeesport, knocking a woman to the ground in the process.

Nancy Paige was walking her dog, Zoe, when the unleashed pit bull ran up to them. %

She told Channel 11 News that the pit bull jumped up and pulled at Zoe. It also caused Paige to fall onto the concrete, leaving her with scrapes and cuts.

“I saw out of the corner of my eye this dog, but I didn't think anything of it and, all of a sudden, it was just there,” Paige said.

“It just kept coming at me and I turned around again, and with that, it came at me and I just fell down,” Paige said.

However, her biggest concern was Zoe.

“He got her leg, the top of her leg, and it was torn pretty bad,” Paige said.

Zoe was taken to Norwin Veterinary Hospital to be treated and is now on a long road to recovery.

“It looked as if a shark had taken a bite out of her,” Dr. Michaelene Gates, of Norwin Veterinary Hospital, said. “She has stainless steel staples, she has a drain -- a Penrose drain -- in, that's helping to drain any excess fluid while the healing process is occurring. But, overall, it's going to take some time.”

According to Paige, the attack that injured Zoe was not the pit bull’s first attack. She said her neighbor’s dog was also injured by the pit bull.

“I hope the dog gets put down. I'm sorry. I love dogs, I love my dog and I love most all dogs, but when a dog does that, it needs to be put down,” Paige said.

The owner of the pit bull has been cited for multiple offenses, including allowing the dog to run at large, failing to inoculate it against rabies and harboring a dangerous dog.
