DERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night in Derry Township.
The accident was reported about 7:30 p.m. on Route 22 near Route 982.
The Westmoreland County coroner's office identified the victim as 42-year-old Charlotte Anderson of Derry Township.
Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic reported that the driver thought he hit a deer because it was dark and rainy. There are no streetlights in the area.
Police said he drove a little farther and pulled over to check for damage. After seeing that there was fluid leaking from the car, he drove home.
When the man's wife saw a report on social media about the accident, they returned to the scene.
Police do not plan to file criminal charges at this time.
State police told Channel 11 News that the investigation is continuing.
