ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — A former lifeguard at Allegheny County community pools entered a plea Tuesday in two cases in which he was charged with sexually assaulting a woman and teenager.
Police said the sexual assaults Michael Kelly is accused of committing took place at the Upper St. Clair Community & Recreation Center and Boyce Mayview Park. Two female lifeguards, who were 16 at the time, told police that Kelly, 30, had sex with them while he was acting as their supervisor at the pools.%

Kelly, of Castle Shannon, was charged with sexual assault in 2015, and two weeks after that charge was filed, he was charged with raping another former lifeguard at the pool.
The criminal complaint alleged Kelly started a relationship with one of the victims that quickly turned volatile, including an incident when Kelly took out a pocketknife and held it to the victim’s throat.
“All three sexual assault offenses were withdrawn with the consent of the victim and detective after discussions revealed evidentiary issues that would not make it possible for us to sustain our burden of proof,” Mike Manko, a spokesman for the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, said in a written statement Tuesday.
Manko said the second victim testified that the sexual contact was consensual, leading the district attorney to withdraw the sexual offense charges with the consent of the victim, her family and the detective on the case.
Kelly pleaded no contest Tuesday to reckless endangerment and simple assault by physical menace. He also pleaded guilty to corruption of minors.
The judge sentenced Kelly to two years’ probation with sexual offender court conditions.
