Financial advisor accused of stealing $17k from former nun

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. — A financial adviser from Connellsville is facing charges after police said he stole thousands of dollars from two women, one a former nun.

Police said Toby McKnight stole more than $117,000 from the victims, pocketing money he was supposed to invest.

Bernadette Moore, who was a nun for 20 years, told Channel 11 News she lost $17,000 and worries she'll never be able to retire.

“He didn't have the guts to face me, to look at me in the eye,” said Moore. “And I even said to him, ‘I just want to know why? How could you? You know I'm scraping for every penny.’"

McKnight is charged with theft. He’s due back in court on Thursday.
