EAST MCKEESPORT, Pa.,None — Fire officials are investigating an apartment building blaze in East McKeesport.

The fire started just before 10 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment building on Broadway Street, officials said.

Everyone made it out of the building safely, but several people were treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.

One of the apartments was destroyed and others have smoke damage, officials said.

Authorities said the fire was controlled in about 30 minutes and firefighters rescued a cat from inside one of the apartments.

Gert Pfefferkorn was in her apartment sleeping when the fire started.

"I was sleeping on my couch when they knocked on my door and told me there was a fire and to get out," Pfefferkorn said. "It was full of smoke all the way through the hall and out on the balcony."

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire and said no one's injuries are life-threatening.
