UNITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two dogs, two gerbils and a lizard were all rescued by firefighters Wednesday from burning Unity Township home.
The fire was reported early Tuesday morning at a house on Route 130.
Crews quickly responded and found no humans inside, but still worked to save the family’s pets.
“Human life is the most important thing we are after then property conservation, of course. The pets are right along there because they are an important part of the family,” Unity Township Fire chief John Bacha said.
A firefighter who lives next door got to the home in a matter of seconds. Bacha said his crews worked hard to keep the flames from spreading through the entire house.
Firefighters said the blaze started in the back of the home, but the cause remains under investigation.
