MADISON, Wis. — A former congressional candidate in Wisconsin is under arrest after he allegedly tried to buy a radioactive substance online.
Jeremy Ryan, 30, is scheduled to appear in court Thursday. He is accused of trying to obtain a lethal dose of radioactive material, which police say he intended to use to kill someone.
Agents with the FBI's Hazardous Evidence Response Team searched his home. According to court documents, Ryan tried to buy the radioactive substance online last March and again this month.

The criminal complaint alleges that Ryan indicated he wanted to use the radioactive substance to kill an unnamed individual. If convicted, Ryan could face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Over the summer, Ryan ran in the GOP primary for the congressional seat currently held by House Speaker Paul Ryan.
He lost that primary election.
