Four western Pennsylvania towns named among the top small towns in state

PITTSBURGH — Four towns across western Pennsylvania were ranked among the top ten best small towns in the state.

AreaVibes, a website dedicated to helping users find the best places to live nationwide, ranked ten of the best Pennsylvania towns to live in with a population of less than 1,000.

Ben Avon Heights, Glen Osborne, Rosslyn Farms and Patterson Heights were the four western Pennsylvania towns selected.

There are 346 towns in Pennsylvania with a population of under 1,000.

Criteria for the top ten selections were based upon:

·         Crime rates

·         Population density

·         Housing costs

·         Education  -- high school success rate

·         Median income
