Girl Dies After Bike Crash In West Mayfield

WHITE TOWNSHIP, Pa.,None — A 14-year-old girl whose bicycle went over an embankment last Saturday in West Mayfield Borough has died.

Marissa Mazur of Chippewa Township died on Friday, according to the coroner's office.

The accident happened on Boden Street. Police said Mazur and Sydney Kinney, 14, were riding the same bicycle when they lost control, hit a tree and fell 30 feet down an embankment.

Geneva College student Daniel Pilling was riding his bicycle in the same area shortly after the crash, found the girls and called 911.

Both were flown to Children's Hospital Saturday. Channel 11 is working to learn Kinney's condition.

Friday afternoon at Blackhawk High School, students gathered to remember their classmate.

Channel 11 spoke with some students who described Mazur as outgoing.

"She wasn't afraid to show who she was at all. Whatsoever. She wore the big black thick glasses on her face," said Brittany Davids.

"She was proud of everything she did. She was never in a bad mood. Always found a way to smile," said Allison Burns.

Burns and Davids have been selling entertainment books to raise money for Mazur and Kinney's families.

"We were just selling the books. Actually in only one homeroom, we actually sold 40 today. And, all of the money was suppose to go to both families," said Davids.

Channel 11 has learned there is an upcoming talent show at the school. The school plans to donate money raised to the Mazur and Kinney families and have other fundraisers planned as well.
