COSTA RICA — Food Technology students in Costa Rica are trying to develop a solution for world hunger.

The students are harnessing the abundance of insects, crickets and beetle larve to make cookies and cakes for developing nations.
The insects are easier to raise than livestock and packed with protein and nutrients.
The creations are part of a international food competition and can be customized for the nutritional needs of the people to whom they are being sent.
They've made a banana and beetle larvae cake mix specially for people in Haiti. Cookies for children northern Costa Rica are made with a different recipe with iron and vitamin A.
Six finalists from around the world will be sent to Chicago for the final judging in July.
