Police said Farnan, 50, and Shawn Evans, 56, were drunk when the shooting occurred.

Farnan became upset when Evans hit him in the head for passing out and slumping over the tavern’s bar.

A bartender testified that the two men ended up on the ground fighting before Evans went to a nearby restroom.

Evans returned and pushed Farnan. The two fell to the ground and struggled.

Police said Farnan fired six shots, striking Evans multiple times.

Farnan, who retired after 19 years as a police officer,  claimed he shot Evans in self-defense.

A family friend told WPXI's Rick Earle "His (Farnan's) opinion is nobody won. It's been horrible."
