PITTSBURGH — Pittsburghers are in for a treat at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

The Islands, a new 22,000 square foot exhibit, is the zoo’s newest feature. It features cascading waterfalls, ponds, as well as a beach area.

“It’s an exhibit like none we’ve ever done before,” said Dr. Barbara Baker, president & CEO of the Pittsburgh Zoo.

The Islands will feature all endangered species. The Philippine crocodile, the world’s most endangered reptile, is included in this group. The zoo will feature two of them.

Also featured in the exhibit are two rare Galapagos tortoises and a juvenile clouded leopard. Last, but not least, the three Visayan warty pigs that we reported on earlier this year will make their debut.

The zoo will continue to work on the exhibit over time, with new siamangs to be added in the next couple of weeks.
