TOKYO, JAPAN — Tokyo police have showed off a drone whose mission is to capture other drones.
The strategy comes after a man caused an uproar by landing a drone on the Japanese Prime Minister's residence. It had a small amount of radioactive sand in it as a protest to the government's nuclear energy policies.
Officials intend to deploy the new device when Japan hosts the G-7 summit next spring.
Officers practiced piloting the drone to capture a smaller drone in its net.
The Tokyo police have formed a special drone squad to enforce new rules governing drone flights.
Places of importance like the prime minister's residence will be monitored on a 24-hour basis.
